publications), projects, infrastructures and units at Lund University The Microbiology, Microbial Pathogenesis and Immunology specialization concentrates on the study of host-pathogen interactions at the molecular and cellular levels. Faculty research programs focus on how microorganisms interact with surfaces, how they survive inside and outside of their hosts, how signals are relayed between the microorganism and the host, and how the host responds to these Recent Microbial Pathogenesis Articles Recently published articles from Microbial Pathogenesis. About Microbial Pathogenesis and Immunology. Research in the Department of Microbial Pathogenesis and Immunology (MPIM) centers on understanding microbial infection, inflammation, and immune dysregulation with the goal of improving human health. Currently, the department houses a number of labs that study bacterial, viral, and fungal pathogens.

The purpose of this chapter is to provide an overview of the many bacterial virulence factors and, where possible, to indicate how they interact with host defense mechanisms and to describe their role in the pathogenesis of disease. The growing number of complete microbial genome sequences provides a powerful tool for studying the biology of microorganisms.
